Across The Universe review from Cindy
Hello all–
Now as much as I’m considered a “movie” person, I rarely send emails advising people what to see. HOWEVER, I just got home from seeing Julie Taymor’s new film “Across the Universe,” and I’m recommending it highly. It’s basically an antiwar love story set in the Vietnam era, but literally the entire movie is Beatles’ covers. The visuals during the music sequences are absolutely stunning (esp. the “I Want You/She’s So Heavy” sequence) and there are some outstanding cameos. I’d only heard of one of the actors before (Evan Rachel Wood from “Once & Again” and the movie “Thirteen”), but they were all great. The fellow who plays Jude sounds just like Ewan MacGregor when he sings (which to me is a fantastic thing!).
I’m sure this is in limited release, so you might have to search it out (it’s only playing in Telluride this Saturday & Sunday), but it’s definitely a “Big Screen Must.”
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I agree with this review. I HATE the Beatles and I was still completely blown away by the movie. I also hate musicals. There was every reason for me to hate the film for superficial reasons and I absolutely didn’t. I think it’s one of the best films of the year.
